Tallis Chapel Society

Picture
The Tallis Chapel Society is a professional choir for Bl. John's, under the direction of Dr. Sandra Fryling. The Tallis singers perform for special events throughout the year for the parish, in addition to other events around Southern California.

The name honors Thomas Tallis, an English composer who occupies a primary place in the anthologies of English church music, and reflects the Tallis Chapel Society's focus on the English choral tradition.

The Tallis Chapel Society was formed in 2011 in conjunction with the formation of Blessed John Henry Newman Catholic, with the goal of providing the finest quality sacred music in the English tradition in Southern California, to the glory of God and with the firm conviction of the Ordinariate fulfilling the vision of the Oxford Movement, and being the proper ecclesial home to the English liturgical and choral heritage. The Society is composed of Orange County's finest ensemble singers who perform the music of the English Renaissance and greater Anglican heritage, such as William Byrd, John Merbecke, and Henry Purcell, as well as other Continental and even contemporary composers.

Find the Tallis Chapel Society on Facebook for occasional updates.

The Newman Consort

For our sister choir serving the Oxford Ordinariate Group in the UK, see the website and Facebook Page of The Newman Consort. The Newman Consort was founded in the Spring of 2011 to provide high quality performances of sacred music within the Catholic liturgy. Specialising in early English and European polyphony as well as plainchant, the Consort is available to sing within the liturgy across the UK and beyond. Our aim is to enhance the beauty of the liturgy through music. In addition, we aim to bring something of the Anglican musical patrimony to the Catholic church.

Here is an audio recording of The Newman Consort singing Henry Purcell's, "Remember not, Lord, our offenses":
